Μy preoccupation with hagiography, or rather the Byzantine way of painting, came from research into the historical continuity of Greek painting and its evolution. It is this painting development that extended westward after the end of Byzantium and in blending with other smaller influences “gave birth and nurtured” the European art.
At this time, portable icons of various sizes are presented as well as some wall-paintings made in churches. Among the handheld images you will notice two very small pictures in which the back is wood-carved.
With the next site refresh will feature more wood carving projects that I deal with when I want to “rest” the brushes.
Since there are not many details for each icon and if you are interested in obtaining or ordering one please contact us, we will be happy to let you know what you want.
